Solar Power Generation Development Division
Oneworld has acquired its own portfolio of solar power generation projects which are at various stages of development. Oneworld is currently expanding its business to include the development and construction of solar power generation projects over the next 24 months, with the intention that Oneworld will own and operate these projects post construction and commissioning.
In building its portfolio of solar power projects, Oneworld employs a strategy of pursuing and sourcing low-impact projects in multiple locations. Oneworld’s careful selection process begins with the early-stage screening under a pre-specified list of criteria, in an effort to select high quality solar power generation projects for construction under future power calls, RFPs, PPAs or FIT programs.
Oneworld’s criteria for the addition of projects to its project development pipeline include:
- superior solar radiation resources justifying the construction of a commercial facility;
- access to transmission;
- access to long-term PPAs or long-term FIT contracts with profitable pricing for supply of energy to utilities or independent power producers;
- satisfactory environmental conditions;
- suitable terrain and geographic features conducive to the development of solar projects;
- visible growth in demand for electricity within the geographic region;
- financial incentives available at the federal, regional and state/provincial levels;
- potential for a levered internal rate of return of at least 14%;
- regional and local political support of renewable energy development;
- permitting and zoning policies that allow solar park development; and
- no significant geopolitical/sovereign risks.
Oneworld’s management believes that the availability of potential projects in Oneworld’s development pipeline in Europe, the USA and Canada provides it with a hedge against changing political and economic environments, or evolving stakeholder and community support.
